THE POPS ORCHESTRA PRESENTS:
Friday, September 27, 2024 at 7:30 PM
Holley Hall at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center (709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota)
What a way to start our 49th season early!! Several years ago, the Stiletto Brass performed with The Pops Orchestra and you all enjoyed them so much, we are bringing them back for an encore without the orchestra!
The Stiletto Brass features five brilliant brass players coming together from orchestras, military bands, and universities across the country delivering concerts of virtuosity and great fun. These five women in red stilettos explore classical and popular music with a unique flair.
SPECIAL NOTE: This recently added concert is not part of your season ticket package.
“Struttin’ with the Stiletto Brass,” a recital-style concert, will feature several selections in the “struttin’” theme, including original compositions for brass quintet such as Jens Lindemann’s “When a Body Meets a Body” about dodging taxi cabs in London, “Central Park in the Morning” by David Chesky, and “Struttin’ with Some BBQ” by composer Kenneth Abeling. Other selections include a fantasy variation arrangement on George Gershwin’s “Summertime” that the Stiletto Brass first performed with Doc Severinsen. Recent Sarasota transplant and retired trumpet teacher at the University of Kentucky, Vincent DiMartino, will be joining them for this and another Gershwin favorite, “Someone to Watch Over Me.”
Where is Holley Hall?
Holley Hall is located inside the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center in the cluster of buildings between the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall and N. Tamiami Trail in the campus now called The Bay. Symphony Center is immediately west of the Municipal Auditorium and the Arts Center of Sarasota.
Turning west onto Boulevard of the Arts (6th St.) or 10th St. will take you to the ample parking lot adjacent to the Center.
