Camping with the Pops

Summer Chamber Music Program

July 8 – 12, 2024

This week-long camp promises an incredible experience for young musicians to expand their musical skills. Rehearsing in small ensembles, guided by professional music educators, the student musicians will prepare a program of selections to be presented in a free concert
on Friday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the SCF Studio for the Performing Arts Recital Hall.

The Camping with the Pops Summer Chamber Music Program, is  sponsored by the Hecht Foundation and hosted by the State College of Florida (SCF) on their Bradenton campus.

Location

All activities take place on the Bradenton campus of State College of Florida in the Performance Arts building.

Camp Faculty/Coaches

2024 Coaches have not yet been confirmed.
however, below is a list of our faculty in 2023.

Dr. Robyn Bell: Music Director of The Pops Orchestra. She holds a Master’s Degree in conducting from the University of Tennessee and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Boston University.

Dr. Jane Hoffman: Pops Principal Flutist, Music Educator at several schools, Adjunct Professor at SCF

Nikki Rinsema: Pops Concert Master

Vic Mongillo: Pops Principal Trumpet, Director of Bands at the Pine View School

Bob Moore: Currently in the horn section of the Sarasota Orchestra. Previously principal horn positions in Bonn, Germany and Nice, France.

Hazel Landers: Percussion Performance major at Rice University

Zack McKee: Pops Principal Saxophone, Director of Band at Sarasota Middle School

Students have their choice of an ensemble based on ability including:

Camp Rehearsals and Concert

July 8 – 12, 2024
Monday – Friday
6 pm to 8 pm
Concluding concert on Friday at 7:30 pm

Applying students must:

  • Be recommended by their teacher
  • Have at least two years playing experience
  • Be able to attend all rehearsals and the concert
  • Complete the on-line registration with a liability waiver and photo release
  • Submit a $75 camp fee with the application.
