Membership in the Pops Orchestra
For 47 years the Pops Orchestra has been performing for the greater Sarasota and Bradenton communities but you may not be aware of the Orchestra’s support of young musicians. Each season, several promising young musicians perform as members of the orchestra gain valuable experience and mentoring from section leaders and its conductor.
Camping With the Pops
In 2018, Camping With the Pops was started to provide high school and college instrumental music students the opportunity to continue their musical development during the summer.
In Summer 2023, over 60 students, coached by musicians from the Pops Orchestra and music educators, participated in a week-long camp performing in ensembles that included a string ensemble, a woodwind ensemble, low brass ensemble, a saxophone choir, a percussion ensemble, and a jazz band. The week concluded with a stirring student recital open to the public.
The faculty coaches for the camp were drawn from music educators performing with the Pops Orchestra and the local community. They have included Vic Mongillo, Jazz Band; Dr. Jane Hoffman, Woodwind Quintet; Zach McKee, Saxophone Choir; Nikki Rinsema, String Ensemble; and Dr. Dan Burdick, Brass Ensemble.
The camp was sponsored by The Hecht Foundation and hosted by the State College of Florida.
